Corpus Dictionary - Department of English






The Department of English at J.J. College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), organized an Intra-Departmental competition titled "Corpus Dictionary" on Friday, July 4, 2025. The event was hosted by the English Literary Association under the guidance of Ms. S. Selvi, the Head of the Department of English. She emphasized the importance of corpus linguistics in modern language studies and highlighted the relevance of such competitions in academic development. The primary objective of the competition was to enhance students' understanding of corpus linguistics and its application in language studies. By engaging in activities related to corpus dictionary creation, participants were encouraged to explore how real-world data can be used to analyze language patterns and usage. 

            The event aimed to foster critical thinking, research skills, and collaboration among students and faculty. 28 students participated with great enthuciasism. Students were divided into 14 teams and given tasks to create mini-corpus dictionaries based on specific themes or genres (e.g., literature, media, or scientific texts). Teams presented their corpus dictionaries, showcasing their findings and methodologies. Judges evaluated the entries based on creativity, accuracy, and the effective use of linguistic tools. Prizes were awarded to the top-performing teams, recognizing their efforts and achievements. The first prize was won by A.Abirami of II PG (P24EG1009) and G.Ponnazhagu of II UG (U24EG1005), S.Nithyapriyadharshini of II PG (P24EG1006) and   P.Subhasri of II UG (U23EG1006) won the second place.
