Recent Trends in Hospitality Industry






The Department of Hotel Management, J.J. College of Arts and Science (Autonomous),

Pudukkottai, organized a Lecture Series on “Recent Trends in Hospitality Industry” on 13th

February at 09.00 a.m. in the Conference Hall. The programme was conducted under the banner

of the Dukes and Duchess Club with the objective of enhancing students’ knowledge about

emerging developments in the hospitality sector.

The hospitality industry is continuously evolving with new technologies, innovative

service methods, and changing customer expectations. This lecture series aimed to bridge the gap

between academic learning and industry practices by inviting experienced professionals to share

their expertise.

A total of 98 students from the Department of Hotel Management actively participated in

the programme along with faculty members.

The programme commenced with a formal welcome address by the organizing team. The

dignitaries and resource persons were warmly welcomed. The convenor of the programme, Dr.

S. Karthikeyan, Head of the Department of Hotel Management, highlighted the importance of

understanding current industry trends to remain competitive in the hospitality sector.

The event was graced by experienced academicians and industry experts from

AIHM&CT.

Resource Persons and Session Details

1. Ms. A.G. Priya

Assistant Professor, AIHM&CT

Topic: Rooms Division Operations and Management

Ms. A.G. Priya delivered an insightful session on Rooms Division Operations and

Management. She explained the structure and functioning of the rooms division department,

including front office, housekeeping, reservations, and guest services. She emphasized the

importance of coordination between departments to ensure guest satisfaction.


She also discussed the role of technology in modern hotel operations, such as Property

Management Systems (PMS), online booking platforms, and revenue management strategies.

The session provided students with practical knowledge about handling guest relations and

maintaining service standards.

2. Mr. S. Saju Kumar

Assistant Professor, AIHM&CT

Topic: Guest Profiling and Service Recovery

Mr. S. Saju Kumar spoke about the significance of guest profiling in delivering

personalized services. He explained how collecting and analyzing guest data helps hotels

understand customer preferences and enhance guest experiences.

He further elaborated on service recovery strategies, highlighting the importance of

addressing customer complaints effectively. Real-life examples were shared to illustrate how

proper service recovery can turn dissatisfied guests into loyal customers. The session was highly

interactive and encouraged students to think critically about problem-solving in hospitality

management.

3. Mr. Karthikeyan Rajendran

Chef, AIHM&CT – Bengaluru

Topic: Current Trends in Culinary and Bakery Arts

Chef Karthikeyan Rajendran delivered a dynamic session on the latest trends in culinary

and bakery arts. He discussed contemporary cooking techniques, presentation styles, fusion

cuisine, sustainable food practices, and healthy menu planning.

He emphasized the growing demand for organic ingredients, plant-based diets, and

innovative plating methods in the global hospitality industry. The session provided valuable

insights into career opportunities and skill development required in the culinary field.

The lecture series witnessed enthusiastic participation from 98 students of the

Department of Hotel Management. Students actively engaged in discussions and clarified their

doubts during the question-and-answer sessions.


The interactive nature of the programme helped students gain practical exposure beyond

textbooks. The event served as a platform for them to understand real-world industry

expectations and professional standards.

Faculty members also attended the session and appreciated the initiative taken by the

Dukes and Duchess Club to organize such an informative academic event.
