The P.G. & Research Department of Biochemistry, J.J. College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Pudukkottai, successfully organized a Three-Day National Level Workshop titled “Molecular Research Bootcamp: From Writing Tools to Protein Docking†from September 17–19, 2025. The event was designed to empower students, researchers, and faculty with modern tools in research writing, molecular techniques, and protein docking. The workshop brought together eminent scientists, professors, and research scholars from across India, creating a vibrant platform for learning, interaction, and skill development.
On Day 1, the workshop commenced with Registration and Kit Distribution, followed by the Inaugural Session and Group Photo Session. Prof. Syed Musthapa Meeran (CSIR-CFTRI, Mysore) delivered the first lecture on “Next Generation Research: Bench to Bedside.†This was followed by Dr. Selvarajan Ramganesh, who presented an engaging session on “From Idea to Impact: Structuring a Scientific Research Paper.†The afternoon featured hands- on training on referencing tools, paraphrasing software, statistical tools, and data analysis. The day concluded with a brief overview of the upcoming sessions planned for Day 2. On Day 2, the day began with a virtual lecture by Prof. Joseph Selvin (Pondicherry University) on “Advances in Genomics and Synthetic Biology.†This was followed by Prof. V. Ravikumar (Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli), who delivered insights on “Recent Molecular Tools in Drug Design.†In the afternoon, participants engaged in hands-on training on phylogenetic analysis, sequence analysis, and MEGA software, coordinated by Dr. Selvarajan Ramganesh. The day concluded with a Heritage Tour to Thirumayam Rockfort Temple, offering participants valuable cultural exposure alongside academic enrichment.
On Day 3, the session opened with a virtual lecture by Dr. K. Panneerselvam (NABI, Punjab) on “Specialized Metabolite Pathways in Plants: Multiple Approaches to a Unified Goal.†This was followed by Prof. M. Rajan (Madurai Kamaraj University), who spoke on “Screening and Protein Docking of Natural Product Compounds.†The afternoon was dedicated to intensive hands-on training, including protein visualization (PyMOL), docking analysis (AutoDock Vina), and protein-ligand docking exercises. The workshop concluded with a Peer Discussion Session, Summary and Feedback Session, and Valedictory Function.
The workshop attracted over 100 participants, including postgraduate students, research scholars, and faculty from universities and colleges across India. Participants actively engaged in lectures and training sessions and expressed their appreciation for the diverse expertise of the resource persons, the balance of theoretical knowledge and practical training, cultural exposure, and the overall organization of the workshop. This event proved to be a resounding success, equipping participants with essential tools and practical skills relevant to modern biological research. It not only enhanced scientific knowledge but also inspired participants to pursue innovative research in genomics, molecular biology, and bioinformatics. The Department of Biochemistry extends its sincere gratitude to all the distinguished resource persons, the Secretary and Principal of the College, organizing committee members, and participants for their invaluable contributions in making this workshop a grand success.
