Free Blood Grouping Camp






On behalf of Jenner Club, PG and Research Department of Microbiology, organized a free blood grouping camp for the benefit of school students. The camp was conducted under the guidance of Dr.P.Jeevan, Head, Dr.M.Poornima and Ms.S.Vijaya Samoondeeswari, Assistant Professor, Ms.R.Karthigai Selvi, Lab Technician belonging to the Department of Microbiology.

The 2nd year M.Sc. students registered the student’s details and detected the blood group for the students.

A total of 149 blood grouping tests were done which comprises of 67 students studying Sixth standard among them 33 were Girls, 34 were Boys, 11 students studying Tenth Standard among them 1 girl and 10 boys, 27 students studying Eleventh standard among them 17 were girls, 10 were boys, and 44 students studying Twelfth Standard among them 16 were Girls 28 were boys. The testing were started sharply at 10.45 a.m. and ended at 2.00 p.m. Students those who have tested their blood group got a filled in slip about their blood group.

Among the 149 students 40% of students were belonging to “B” Positive blood group, 30% were belonging to “A” Positive blood group, 30% were belonging to “O” Positive blood group and remaining were belonging to “B” Negative, “AB” Positive and “O” Negative.

When compared to the girl students more number of boys was tested to make them come forward to donate blood whenever possible and also spread the message of blood donation among masses.

Blood grouping is the first step in this direction.
