An anti-drug awareness programme was organized on 13.01.2026 by the Anti-Drug Committee
of J.J. College of Arts and Science (Autonomous).
Mrs. P. Umasankari, Inspector of Police, Namanasamudram Police Station, participated as the
chief guest and addressed the college students. In her special address, she explained in detail
about narcotic substances, their illegal sale and usage among youth, and the severe harmful
consequences of drug abuse. She emphasized that drug addiction is spreading among young
people mainly due to bad company and advised students to be cautious while associating with
friends who use drugs.
Mr. Ravichandran and Mr. Arumugam, Assistant Inspectors of Police from Namanasamudram
Police Station, also took part in the programme and delivered special lectures on healthy food
habits, thereby enriching the event.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. G. Manikandan, Head of the
Department of Biotechnology. The event was presided over by the Principal, Dr. J. Parasuraman,
who, in his presidential address, stressed the importance of students being well-informed about
drug abuse and its consequences. He also highlighted the need for students to respect and obey
their parents, citing relevant couplets from the Thirukkural to reinforce his message.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Dayanidhi, Head of the
Department of Tamil.
