A One-Day Yoga Program

The English Literary Association of JJ College of Arts and Science(Auto) Sivapuram, Pudukkottai organised a one-day yoga programme titled “Yoga for Holistic Development” on Thursday 29/09/2022. Sirorathina Siddhar Ma Jayadavadossar, Founder, Research and Training Foundation of Yoga, Aranthangi was the Yogacharya, spoke about the importance of yoga in our tension-ridden world and initiated students to exercises like pranayama and a few simple asanas that could ensure the harmonious development of the body, mind and the intellect. The word „Yoga‟ means „Union‟. It implies the union of the individual spirits with the cosmic force. The Gayathri Manthra is only a prayer for harmony between the self and the cosmic force. Man should seek a balance between the body, the mind and the spirit. Yoga is the channel for this. Yoga is not just bodily exercise. It is the training for achieving concentration, peace and harmony. It is a cure for all tension and has therapeutic effects. We can prevent the on-set of hyper-tension, control diabetes and avert many physical and mental complications. That is why even allopaths recommend yogic exercises.

The students enthusiastically participated in the training and vowed to practice asanas and pranayama to discipline body and mind.

Earlier Ms. S.Selvi, Head of the Department inaugurated the programme, introduced the chief guest and honoured him with a shawl. In her presidential address she pointed out that yoga had preventive and curative powers and could even enhance personal magnetism. In the concluding session, certificates were distributed to the participants and Mrs.K.Muthulakshmi proposed the vote of thanks.
