Memorandum of Understanding was made between Department of Biotechnology, J.J. College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Pudukkottai, and Trichy Regenerative Medicine, Trichy.
On behalf of Wilmut Club of Biotechnology, J.J. College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Pudukkottai, organized a special lecturer program on 28/06/2019, at Gallery Hall (A/C) by Dr.P. Ramachandran, Director and Head, Trichy Regenerative Medicine, Trichy. In his lecture, he described about stem cells. A stem cell is a cell with the unique ability to develop in to specialized cell types in the body. In future, they ma be used to replace cells and tissues that have been damaged or lost due to disease.
He explained about the culturing of stem cells and their sources. He stated that, stem cell therapy is safe, simple and effective treatment to the incurable diseases. He emphasized that successful treatments have been done earlier using stem cells to address problems of knee replacement and chronic shoulder pain can also be treated.
He also stated that, stem cell therapy helps to treat diabetic heal and also used to treat hair loss, liver cirrhosis, coronary heart diseases, muscular dystrophy, stroke, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injuries, autism and osteoarthritis.
He highlighted the efficacy of stem cell in wound healing by showing some photographs of his patients. He also illustrated that Stem cell therapy can be a boon for neuro regenerative disorders irrespective of an age group.
Finally, he concluded his speech by interacting with students and he informed about the various job opportunities for Biotech students in medical sector as well as in other sectors. Earlier Dr. G.Manigandan, Head, Dept. of Biotechnology, welcome the gathering & Dr. P. Prabakaran honored the special guest. Finally Dr.V. Jayaramanathan proposed the vote of thanks.
