World Nature Conservation Day






World Nature Conservation Day was celebrated by the Wilmut Club under the aegis

of P.G. and Research Department of Biotechnology, Pudukkottai on 28.07.23, Friday. The Chief

guest of the programme was Dr. S.R. Senthil Kumar, Associate Professor and Head, P.G. and

Research Department of Botany, St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli. The programme was

started with tree plantation with some indigenous species of medicinal plants. The objective of

the programme was to increase awareness among the students about protecting the natural

resources that the Earth is bestowed with.

The tree plantation was followed by a special lecture by Dr. Senthil Kumar on ‘Measures

to protect nature’. In his address highlighted that it is high time that due present generation

inculcates environment friendly habits to lead a green life style. He added that people should

promise to alter their habits to help in saving natural resources, animals and trees on Earth. He

emphasized that the day is celebrated to acknowledge that a healthy environment is the

foundation for a stable and healthy society.

Dr. G. Manigandan, Assistant Professor and Head, P.G. and Research Department of

Biotechnology, Pudukkottai said that the aim of the program was to propagate awareness

amongst our students and make them aware that conservation of resources is an important step in

saving the Earth as a group of thoughtful, committed and responsible citizens can change the

world. The programme was hosted by a student Ms. Suveena and Vote of thanks proposed by

another student Ms. Azra Firdous of our department.
