The PG and Research Department of English J.J. College of Arts and Science (Autonomous), Sivapuram, Pudukkottai organized a special lecture on American war Fiction by Dr.S.Mani Meghalai, Department of English, Arumugam Pillai Seethaiammal College, Thirupathur at 11.00 a.m. on 25.02.2020.
The speaker highlighted the salient features of American war Fiction focusing on the works of Stephan Crane, John Doss posses, Norman Mailer, Joseph Heller and Thomas Pynchon. She focused on the dehumanizing effects of war and the corresponding invincibility of the human spirit that even the worst forms of regimentation can’t crush. In these novels one finds a five balance between plot, characterization, narrative strategies and overall tone. It is this admixture that makes these novelists, the classics of their time, ranging from the period of the civil war to the modern cold war, through the First and Second world wars.
Earlier Ms. S.Selvi, Head of the Department introduced the Chief Guest. S.Yogeswari of III B.A. English welcomed the gathering, M.Santhya of I M.A. English proposed the vote of thanks.
