Twenty students of the Department of English, J.J.College of Arts and Science (Autonomous) Pudukkottai, along with two staff members visited Sirunangupatti (the village adopted by the Department) in Kavinadu East Panchayat and interacted with the workers engaged in the MGNREGA Programme.
Dividing the workers into small groups the students had a one to one interaction on their socio economic and family profile and sought to promote awareness on issues like Health, Hygiene, Sanitation, child-rearing, children's education, kitchen gardening, nutrition and dietetics, family budgeting and small savings.
They also sensitized the villagers on various government initiatives for rural regeneration and introduced the villagers to Banking procedures. The villagers enthusiastically interacted with the students raising queries and appreciating explanations. The students returned to the college by 2 p.m after breathing the rural air that was regenerating and refreshing to them.
