Contemporary Indian Fiction in English






The Department of English JJ College of Arts and Science (Autonomous) Pudukkottai organized a special lecture on 'Contemporary Indian Fiction in English ' at 11 am on Thursday 7.4.2022.  Mrs Dr R. Shanthi , Associate Professor of English, (Sri Pushpam College, Poondi Tanjavur) was the guest speaker.  In her Scholarly speech she outlined the various trends like post modernism, post colonialism, magic realism, feminism, eco feminism and disporic experience, that have enriched Indisn Fiction in English.

She drew attention to the impact of international ideologies and narratological devices and their fusion with the native tradition  that is the major characteristic of Indian fiction in English.   She cited writers like Arundhathi Roy,  Kiran Desai, Amitav Ghosh, Salmon Rusde, Arvind Adiga,  Anita Nair and others as representatives of the Contemporary creative ethos.

      Earlier Mercita of 2nd BA welcomed the audience.  Ms S. Selvi HoD of English introduced the speaker, P.L.Bharathi 1st MA compred the programme and Dipshi Reyan of 3rd BA proposed the vote of thanks.
