The P.G. and Research Department of Commerce were established in August 2006 with the introduction of M.Com.C.A. The department offers under graduate B.Com. C.A. from the year 2008, research programmes like M.Phil (commerce) and Ph.D (commerce) from 2007. The department also offers a value added course like Tally E.R.P with Quick books The undergraduate and post graduate student enrolment for the year 2015- 16 is 110 and 27, for 2016-17 is 132 and 35 and 2017 - 18 is 172 and 35, 2018 - 19 is 209 and 23 and 2019 - 2020 is 226 and 18.
The department focuses to contribute to the students learning process through a rigorous and dynamic curriculum that highlights the local, regional, national and global needs. Scope of the programme is widening day by day, as it caters the needof corporate environment. The post graduate students have been exposed to practical methods of knowledge through field projects in recognized firms and institutions. Our students can do the projects in the various fields like Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, Banking, etc., Every year students will secure a university rank from the inception of the department particularly in the year 2015 April Mr. N. Manivannan and in 2018 April Miss A. Wahitha Banu secured university first rank .
The department adopted ICT enabled teaching approach by using LCD projectors, smart classrooms. As a visual power has great impact teaching is done through power point presentation. The department is equipped with highly qualified competent and well trained faculty members who have expertise in the various fields. The department has 5 Doctorate degree holders, 2 NET and SET qualified faculties respectively.
To open a arena for student the department arranges regular industrial visit to various places like Kodaikanal, Ooty, Kerala as a part of their curriculum.The department provides a platform for learning through Boom'sclub byorganizing 17 guest lecture programmes, 4 Workshops, 2 International Conferences, 3 Webinars and an e-quiz on diverse topics for students, where they ensure the persistent reforms in methods and competence are provided.
The Department of Commerce added an extra feather to its cap by becoming a research department with recognized research supervisors guiding full-time research scholars and part-time research scholars. Researcher has a dialectical relationship with teaching and the department has 6 Doctorates in the department. All guides are offer guidance to Ph.D. scholars. At present there are 16 full-time and part-time scholars pursuing doctoral research. Regarding M.Phil. there are 4 Research guides so far the department has produced 14 doctorates and 105 M.Phils. The staffs have published 85 research articles in with creditable citational Scopus index. They also frequently attend Faculty Development Programmes, refresher and orientation courses in peer institutions. Besides participating in-house FDP's organized by the college. Over the years the department has build up an enviable infrastructure commensurate with the growing needs determined by increasing student strength and the compulsion of syllabus revision. In addition to the resources available in the central Management libraries, the department has a sectional library containing 265 books, journals are being regularly purchased. The lab has sufficient systems with latest configurations and all the necessaries software and accounting packages. Our results are uniformly good. Course-wise we produce 85% to 100% passes. Programme-wise the output has increase as a result of the intensive coaching they get through classroom work and assignment. Students who have secured University ranks are given prizes to motivate their excellence in academics. From each classes best students are selected through skill competition who excellence themselves both in academics and co-curricular activities, they are termed as Best student of the class and they are rewarded with prizes. The exceptionally skilled and proficient expertise faculty members persuade the students throughout the academic year. Where they motivate and mould them, in acquiring their achievements. In numerous numbers, the department organizes educational seminars and workshops on diverse topics for both students and faculties. Where they ensure that, the persistent reform in methods and competence are provided. As further enhancing element of a student career the department provides placement and internships features which holds splendid record of students who are placed in various big four companies. The department smooth relations with its alumnae and offers placement and career counseling through effective use of social media and like Whatsapp groups, face book etc. Many of our students are working as Auditors, Bank executives, Insurance and Investment counselors and Corporate managers. They pursue higher studies even after placed. The department has made creditable contributions to campus like through the achievements of the students in sports and cultural competitions. Some of the distinguished alumnae are working at various reputed institutions. The department tries to build up sound stakeholders relationship and extents total co-operation to the college administration in fulfilling institutional objectives. The discipline 'Commerce with Computer Applications' is itself unique in its multi-disciplinary structure. The department conducts online classes through Google class room. The objective is to turnout accounting and management professional who will have the capacity to handle e-commerce and related challenges.
